Recipe: Ground Beef Chili
Summary: Sauteed ground beef, onion, green pepper and garlic combined with kidney beans and stewed tomatoes. Seasoned with chili powder hot pepper sauce, cumin and oregano.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Pound Ground Beef
- 1 Onion, finely chopped
- 1 Green Bell Pepper, finely chopped
- 3 Cloves Garlic, finely chopped
- 1 Can Red Kidney Beans, (15 ounces), drained and rinsed
- 1 Can Black Beans, (15 ounces), drained and rinsed
- 1 Can Stewed Tomatoes, (14 ounces)
- 1/4 Cup Tomato Paste
- 1/4 Cup Honey
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin
- 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 Teaspoon Hot Sauce
- Garnish: Serve chili topped with shredded cheddar cheese and sliced green onions, if desired.
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large pot or a Dutch oven.
- Add the beef, breaking up the meat while cooking.
- Cooking time usually takes about 5 minutes, or until browned.
- Add the onion, bell pepper and garlic and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the vegetables are soft.
- Add the beans, tomatoes, 1 cup water, tomato paste, honey, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and hot sauce.
- Simmer covered 2 hours.
- Top with garnish of choice.
