Recipe: Chili Pasta With Beans

Summary: Ground sirloin, onion, pinto beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce combined with a small pasta shape. Seasoned with chili powder, cumin and oregano.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
  • 3/4 Cup White Onion, chopped
  • 3/4 Pound Ground Sirloin
  • 4 Teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 2 Cups Bottled Water
  • 3/4 Teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 2-1/4 Cups Wagon Wheel-Shaped Pasta, uncooked
  • 1 Can No-Salt-Added Pinto Beans, (15 ounces), rinsed and drained
  • 1 Can Fire-Roasted Diced Tomatoes with green chilies, (14.5 ounces), un-drained
  • 1 Can No-Salt-Added Tomato Sauce, (8 ounce)

Instructions

  1. In a large nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and beef to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes or until the onion is tender and the beef is browned.
  3. Stir in the oregano, cumin and chili powder and cook 1 minute.
  4. Stir in 2 cups of water, salt, pasta, beans, tomatoes and tomato sauce and bring to a boil.
  5. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 18 minutes or until pasta is done.
